Donate your book or books

  1. The library in your hometown
  2. Community libraries at coffee shops
  3. The five closest libraries to your house
  4. The local community college library
  5. The libraries in the town where the book was set in
  6. Women’s shelters
  7. VA hospitals
  8. Homeless shelters
  9. Children’s hospitals
  10. Retirement homes
  11. Local B&B’s
  12. Senior Centers

Cultivate Community:

  1. Answer all your blog comments (This is just common sense. Do not in any way justify negative feedback. You can always delete a negative post or reply back civilly.)  
  2. Offer “extra features” on your website or blog
  3. Use Twitter hashtags
  4. Engage with your fans on FB (Definitely do this in a timely manner.) 
  5. Say thank you to readers with special incentives for being a fan
  6. Offer core fans advanced copy of future books
  7. Ask your fans to post pictures of them reading your book
  8. Create an online community with a forum
  9. Ask your reading community to design merchandise for your store
  10. Create a fan page for your main character (works well if they are in a series)
  11. Ask fans to create their own book trailers and post them online
  12. Ask fans to post pictures of “character spottings
  13. Poll your readers and listen to what they say

Build your fan base:

  1. Create a monthly newsletter
  2. Keyword your blog posts
  3. Host-guest bloggers
  4. Become a guest blogger
  5. Create business cards with your web address on them and hand them out
  6. Put your photo on your business card for stronger branding
  7. Start commenting on other blogs (early and often)
  8. Retweak the SEO on your site
  9. Ask fans to post their reviews on your Facebook page
  10. Ask fans to post their reviews on Amazon
  11. Ask fans to post their reviews on Goodreads
  12. Sign up for Twitter
  13. Clean up your social footprint
  14. Create an author FB page and use it instead of your profile page
  15. Sign up for Google Authorship
  16. Offer bloggers advanced reading copies
  17. Go on an online book tour
  18. Register as an author on Amazon
  19. Register as an author on Goodreads
  20. Create a testimonial page on your website
  21. Create a book trailer
  22. Create a hashtag for your next book
  23. Create a book launch team
  24. Record your Google+ hangouts and put them on YouTube

Become an expert:

  1. Make sure your author about me page is interesting and relevant
  2. Create a Meetup group
  3. Get active on LinkedIn
  4. Write freelance pieces on the core message of your story and pitch to niche publications
  5. Give lectures on the core message of your story (non-fiction especially)
  6. Host webinars with other experts
  7. Create a series of web-videos interviewing experts on the core message of your story

Make some extra money:

  1. Repackage old blog posts and sell them as an e-book (Depending on what you talk about on your website this may be a great idea!)
  2. Sell your book on your site, not just Amazon
  3. Join an affiliate program
  4. Speak on the core topic of your book
  5. Become a content writer
  6. Host paid webinars
  7. Freelance with niche magazines
  8. Sell ads on your website
  9. Sell ads in your newsletter
  10. Write a new ebook tailored to your fans
  11. Mentor another writer
  12. Become an Amazon Affiliate
  13. Offer customizable ebooks for readers

Build your brand offline

  1. Write a Press Release
  2. Ask to be interviewed by your local paper
  3. Ask to be interviewed by the paper your book is set in
  4. Ask to be interviewed by the local radio host
  5. Go on a physical book tour
  6. Start thinking local
  7. Sell themed merchandise
  8. Host a book release party
  9. Link with an activity that supports your cause and sell your book there (non-fiction especially)
  10. Create a viral video about a scene from your book
