Tarnished Gold-Sam’s Story-Coming Soon

Samantha Sungold-Tarnished Gold is a Young Adult novel I have been working on at random times. Sam is a character that first came to be in Sterling. Tarnished Gold is Sam’s story.

I recently dove back into writing Sam’s story because I love, love, love the characters and I would like to have it published by the end of this year or beginning of next year. (The reason I put Sam’s novel aside to begin with is because I made writing it more complicated than it needed to be. I felt the need to delve into the teenage mind and it took me a while to realize I have all of the information I need in my own mind. Thank You very much:)) Besides I have my next three novels trying to fight for precedence and can’t seem to write fast enough to get one novel out.

In Tarnished Gold, Sam doesn’t go to a public school. She is tutored at home and isn’t very fond of her teacher Drake Soto. Drake rubs Sam the wrong way and has a sliminess to him. Is that a word? Sliminess? Drake isn’t what he seems to be and Sam picks up on that quality right away.

Here are a few snippets from some of the chapters.

Chapter ElevenThe Conjuring

Samantha Sungold-Tarnished Gold by Lynn ThompsonTrey and the gang showed up a few minutes before I closed the shop. I applied a small amount of lipgloss, locked up and we headed to the movie theater, passed the movie theater, and continued to walk down the road. I slowed my steps and raised an eyebrow at Trey.

He grinned. “Don’t worry,” he said as he tugged on my hand in an attempt to catch up with the others. “We’re going to Kova’s tonight.”

I didn’t know what to think, but since Kova came through for me I felt like I should put some trust in her.

We entered Kova’s house and I was speechless. The outside looked like the typical two-story house with a balcony, but the inside was huge. I followed her through the living room and could easily imagine twenty to thirty people comfortably lounging in the area around the enormous fireplace. I caught a glance at the bathroom. It was spacious with a double vanity, shower (with three shower heads on each side of the walls and a bench), full jet tub and toilet. I could easily live inside her bathroom I thought. Down the hall, she opened a door, flipped on the light and we took the stairs down to the basement/entertainment room. There was a pool table in one corner, a pinball machine in another, a big screen TV on the wall, bean bags everywhere and a full couch including a lounge chair centered in front of the TV.

I plopped down in the middle of the couch. Trey and Tavian boxed me in. Ginger and Pepper boxed Angel in on the other side of the couch as we watched Kova jump up and down while she slid a disk into the PS-4. Kova hit play, twirled to the light, flicked it off, and nudged herself between me and Tavian.

Woot!” Ginger exclaimed as the movie started. “This is on my flick list! Nice pick, Kova.”

Kova grinned. Pepper inched her way closer to Angel, I was bound and determined to be brave and stick this one out.

Ironically The Conjuring was in the venue tonight. I hate dolls. Dolls have given me the creeps for as long as I remember and I’m a firm believer they hold lost spirits in their creepy little doll forms. A chill crawled up my back at the mere sight of Annabelle.

Trey laced his fingers through mine and it took all of my will not to crawl into his lap. I couldn’t relax during the movie but was proud of myself, I only jumped out of my skin every so often. I watched in silence as the demon reeked havoc on the Perron family before finally taking possession of Carolyn. The hanging of the witch sucked the air out of my lungs. And, of course, the movie ended with Annabelle again. I searched my brain for any sightings of dolls in my house and it came up empty. I sighed with relief, one thing I didn’t have to worry about when I got home.

After the movie ended the gang started critiquing it. Full body chills consumed me. What if I let loose something demonic? What if the memories I had weren’t truly mine? I was left to wonder if I was conjuring something I shouldn’t by working the spells I’d found and I made a mental note that if everything I’d been doing blew up in my face I should do a statewide search for paranormal investigators. I reminded myself that no-one knew I was a semi-practicing witch or a spell caster in training. I also reminded myself that I had no clue what I was doing when I cast the spells.

Te Amo

Shadow Man

Dark Fates-Madness

One Way Ticket

Normally Tyra had fun with this ruse, but tonight she couldn’t get into the swing of things. She let Liam take the lead and tried desperately to stay planted in the here and now. Tyra relaxed into Liam’s arms; a deep sense of well-being settled over her. She lightly stroked Liam’s waistline with her fingertips. Liam’s muscles took on a more defined shape under her hands. His lips dropped closer to hers with every step they took. She snuggled into him. Amazingly content she thought about hooking up with Liam, thinking in some sad way she was missing out. She glanced up, ready for a kiss. The face that gazed back at her didn’t belong to Liam. It belonged to him. Tyra’s heart dropped into her stomach, all movement stopped. She wrenched herself free of the arms holding her so intimately and stormed out the front door.

Teen Spirit

Jade studied the hordes of weeping people that herded into the gymnasium. They were all crying because of her. Her lips curled into a sneer as she glanced around for her small group of friends. She couldn’t believe they weren’t here yet. Bored she floated down a couple of bleachers to eavesdrop on a group of her parent’s friends.

Calla Crossing

She sat on the pipeline, feet dangling in the air, hands clinging to the metal cable. Calla waited patiently for Broden to show up. Steadying herself to roll with the bridge in the slight breeze she gazed over the amazing view of the canyon before glancing down. Almost one-hundred feet below the river flowed between the canyon walls. How did she get here? Some days she had a hard time remembering. Some days her memory was crystal clear. Every day, her soul screamed for vengeance.

Today she sat searching her memories, wondering again how she got here.

Zack’s Promise

Zack shook his head to chase the memory away. He’d always had this drive to prove himself to his big brother. He didn’t know why.

The sun sat on the horizon, Zack needed to get home. He sighed and trudged at a snails pace along the trail. He never seemed to remember anything good about Isaac. Only bad memories. He’d taken what Isaac said to heart and never tried out for the track team. Maybe he’d try out at the beginning of his junior year. Coach always called him speedy and asked him to join every year, so far. He’d have to get off the anti-depressants, the Xanax, and begin training again. If he could just come up with the willpower, and the energy to do it.

He sighed heavily, remembering his promise to Isaac. The depression pushed down harder on his shoulders. If everything went as planned he wouldn’t be alive long enough to become a Junior.

The Snake in the Cereal

The Fire in the Mountains

The Man with the Bugs

Cannabis Cannibalism -vs- The West Nile Virus

Bats, Cats, and Wildlife

Excerpt: From the Man with the Bugs

Jerry paced his 6 by 8-foot cell while scratching madly at his receding hairline. Solitary confinement was the worse, but at least here he wasn’t catching the other prisoner’s bugs. At the same time, if they’d thrown him in a regular cell he’d have outdoor privileges. He’d be able to bake and fry the stupid invaders off him with the sun. The corrections officers swore they bleached his cell and cot before slamming the door behind him. He still saw the little monsters on everything; especially on the inside of his eyelids.

Damn his cell phone provider for giving away his information to the police, though they weren’t investigating him. It was their fault he got busted. The fucking police should have had to get a warrant to go through his “daily activities” and “texts” on his cell phone. All because his number was listed on that damned tower! A person can’t make a call nowadays without their information getting tagged and kept for investigative purposes!

“Just in case,” they said. “We have to keep a record of every number that bounced off the tower.”

“Hah, what a load of crap! I’ll sue them after I get out of this mess. It’s against my civil rights!” He seethed under his breath.

Karma Shay

Nighttime is my time. That’s when all of the bad boys and girls come out to play. I’m a player too. The thing? I can’t be touched. But I can make life miserable for the not so lucky.
