Sterling- A Montana Dayton Novel Capter 2:2

ec556-moonthumbAfter seeing Max off I sat on the front porch, enjoying the night air. I wanted to pull out my Harley and go for a ride, but my sister always gave me a hard time about riding the bike, well at least since I bought it a month ago.

Riding in Florida didn’t worry me; the drivers down here are much more courteous than New Mexico, and I couldn’t help myself, the bike’s sweet.

Along with my deep cobalt pearl 2011 Sportster Forty-Eight, I’m renting a jet black 2011 Challenger. It’s hard to pick which one I should drive sometimes.

I considered buying the Challenger; it’s one of my favorite cars. Unfortunately it wouldn’t be able to make it up my dirt road in the mountains. The Harley I can just load into my truck.

“Alright sis, we’re ready to head out now. I’m sorry we have to cut our time together so short.” My sister sat down next to me.

“Me too,” I sighed. “I’m going to miss all of you.”

“Charlie talked dad into calling the foreman again just to make sure, but we have to go back. The idiot owner of the mansion is threatening to sue.”

I started to wonder if this guy Shawn was working for had an actual name, but decided not to ask. When someone upset my sister that much they had no name, they were just an idiot.

“I seriously doubt Shawn will let that happen. If you have any problems tell me, I’m sure I would be able to find a ton of dirt on the guy you could use to retaliate.”

Zoë laughed. “I know you could.”

I’ve had to find dirt on people before, but I’ve never had to use it. What can I say; I don’t like anyone pushing me or my family around.

Shawn rolled out the suitcases and dumped them into the SUV they were renting before sitting down next to us.

“Charlie has wrapped herself around one of the banisters on the staircase. I can’t pull her off, I need some reinforcements.”

“She really doesn’t want to leave.” Zoë chuckled, glancing at me.

“Don’t look at me! I’d probably lose her or something.”

“So you’re planning on staying?”

“Yes, for a little while anyway.”

“What about Max?”

I shrugged my shoulders.

We were still sitting outside when Charlie came running out.

“I thought you forgot about me.”

I laughed as I grabbed her up in a bear hug, “Never.”

I gave her a big kiss on the cheek before Shawn snagged her away from me and headed to the SUV.

Zoë sighed and stood up. “Why haven’t I ever thought of that? Next time we’ll ignore her, maybe she’ll think we forgot about her and come running to us again.”

“It’s worth a try.” I grinned as we walked to the vehicle.

I hugged Shawn, Zoë, and Charlie, while keeping a good hold of Killer. He desperately wanted to go with them. We said goodbye and I headed back to the porch. I lit a smoke as soon as they were out of view.

“I think I am going to go for that ride Killer. Don’t get into too much trouble while I’m gone.”

I walked into the house for my leather jacket and helmet.
