But when officer Blick, the one person Paul never cares to see, or talk to shows up on his doorstep wanting the case files the PI had been working on Paul knows something is up. The file turns up missing from both Paul’s house and the PI’s office. Paul doesn’t much care, but at the same time he needs to make enough money to pay his mortgage. Coming up with a brilliant idea he calls Joey, his ex-boss and editor of the Chronicle with the promise that if Joey rehires him for the next few weeks he’ll give him a great story along with solving the murder of Jack.

In his effort to uncover the mystery he runs across one missing child, two not so helpful brothers, one crazy wife, and three dead bodies. Not to mention someones trying to kill him, but at least his cat survives the fire.

Great read, fast paced, fun. And while Paul’s trying to figure out who the murderer is he also has to deal with some of his own personal issues of the opposite sex which makes Paul’s character more human.
