My family, some friends, and I went to see Star Wars- The Force Awakens Christmas Eve and it got me thinking about Building your Brand Offline.

I don’t normally go to the movies Christmas Eve or day for that matter, so we picked up our tickets early and expected a long line of people. We had almost the whole theater to ourselves:) Good for us, but it made me question if people even went to the movies on Christmas Eve or if Star Wars is that big of a deal. I guess I’ll never know.

As far as the movie itself, I still can’t figure out how much I enjoyed it. We saw it in 3D so the graphics were good, the acting was good too, but the movie itself missed a few aspects I thought it needed. Now I have never read the books so I don’t know if it follows the story or if there even is a story for this Star Wars. And I don’t feel like I should go into detail because I don’t want to be a spoiler for anyone else who might enjoy it:)

Star Wars has gotten a lot of PR so I looked at how much offline branding the creators of Star Wars did.

Granted, when I looked this up I found more links on Star Wars Battlefront Betta than the actual movie.

Star Wars offline branding hit it off big at Comic-Con. They engaged online and offline fans,  teasers, behind the scenes scoops, interviews with cast and crew members, comics, storybooks, fan art, photos, events, and more.

I recently found a post on 89+ book marketing ideas and so far have posted increase your web presence,  build your fan base, cultivating community, and making extra money to this series. Book marketing can take a lot of time and effort and I continually want to make sure I’m on the right path. With life, learning, and writing, I’m trying to manage my time better so I love it when I find loads of information on one post instead of finding a bit here and a piece there.

The post on the blog I found has a ton of information so I’m separating the book marketing ideas into eight different posts. Hopefully, once a week. Feel free to visit Author Media to read the whole post and get more great information. I’ve been using these lists and checking off what I already have and what I need to do.

As with anything else, I may not use all of this information and you may not either. But it is nice to have on hand.

Build your brand offline

  1. Write a Press Release
  2. Ask to be interviewed by your local paper
  3. Ask to be interviewed by the paper your book is set in
  4. Ask to be interviewed by the local radio host
  5. Ask to be interviewed on the local morning show (read this article first)
  6. Partner with a band that has the same cause as you
  7. Go on a physical book tour
  8. Start thinking local
  9. Sell themed merchandise (Think “Team Edward” shirts)
  10. Rent a billboard
  11. Host a book release party
  12. Link with an activity that supports your cause and sell your book there
  13. Create a viral video about a scene from your book

 

As of right now I have not done much with offline marking. Something that isn’t on this list and that I have done is talk to people and hand out business cards.
