Last week I was invited to go salmon snagging. Why not? It would be nice to have fresh salmon cozying up with my green chile in my deep freezer. Sounds like fun, right? It was. We left at 3 am drove 2.5 hours to the lake that was supposed to be packed full of salmon and trout and threw out or trout reels. We made coffee (to warm up), set up our salmon snagging reels, watched the sun rise and got down to it.

A big beautiful bald eagle was the only one who caught a fish that day.

As I very, very patiently waited to catch some fish I started thinking about this post and everything that could/would/should be done to help get any authors name out there. Writing is never far from my mind. There is a lot of information out on the world wide web. A lot that can be done.

I came to the conclusion that every individual author needs to, shall I say, pick their poison. Find what’s right for you. What you will enjoy and thrive from? Not everything works and book marketing is time-consuming.

Part 3: Cultivate Community:

I recently found a post on 89+ book marketing ideas and posted part 1 and part 2 to this series. Book marketing can take a lot of time and effort and I continually want to make sure I’m on the right path. With life, learning, and writing, I’m trying to manage my time better so I love it when I find loads of information on one post instead of finding a bit here and a piece there.

This is a lot of information so I’m going to separate the book marketing ideas into eight different posts. Hopefully, once a week. Since I am #Backinschool my time is limited. Feel free to visit Author Media to read the whole post and get more great information. I’ve been using these lists and checking off what I already have and what I need to do. As with anything else I may not use all of this information and you may not either. But it is nice to have on hand.

Cultivate Community:

  1. Create an online community with a forum
  2. Say thank you to readers with special incentives for being a fan
  3. Ask your reading community to design merchandise for your store
  4. Create a fan page for your main character (works well if they are in a series)
  5. Ask fans to create their own book trailers and post them online
  6. Offer core fans advanced copy of future books
  7. Ask fans to post pictures of “character spottings”
  8. Offer “extra features” on your website
  9. Use Twitter hashtags (This one I have gotten into the habit of doing, although it did take some training on my part:))
  10. Poll your readers and listen to what they say
  11. Answer all your blog comments (This is just common sense. Do not in any way justify negative feedback. You can always delete a negative post or reply back civilly.)
  12. Engage with your fans on FB (Definitely do this in a timely manner.)
  13. Ask your fans to post pictures of them reading your book

I have three of these down. How many do you have?
